On July 15, 2023, the 23rd COTA International Conference on Transportation Science, with the theme of Intelligence, Low Carbon, Interconnection: Technology Innovation Empowers Sustainable Transportation, sponsored by Beijing University of Technology, and specially supported by COTA and China Highway and Transportation Society, was opened in Beijing. At the conference, Professor Wang Wei, Director of the Civil Transportation Department of Southeast University and the School of Transportation, was awarded the COTA Lifetime Achievement Award.
The COTA Lifetime Achievement Award was established by the Chinese Overseas Transportation Association in 2010 to recognize scholars who have made long-term and outstanding original research and teaching contributions in the field of transportation; or government and corporate leaders who have played an important and long-term role in the field of transportation and made critical contributions to the application of scientific and technological advances. Southeast University is a key comprehensive research university in China located in Nanjing, Jiangsu province with a wide range of disciplines covering engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, education, art, and medicine. It is a Double First-Class and a world-class discipline university supported by the Chinese government's 211 Project and 985 Project.
The award recognizes Professor Wang Wei's outstanding achievements in the fields of transportation planning and virtual traffic simulation technology, and his outstanding contributions to the training of transportation engineering professionals in China. In his acceptance speech, Professor Wang Wei said, I am very honored to receive the COTA Lifetime Achievement Award and I appreciate the recognition from experts and colleagues for our work. He also stated that he will continue to conduct research in the field of comprehensive transportation and its simulation, and contribute to the construction of a strong transportation country in China.
