Presentation: Improving Asphalt Motorways Paving Compaction via Digital Twins Technology
Date: May 29
Location: 322 Meeting Room
Dr. Wang is a postdoctoral researcher at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Aston University, UK, and holds a PhD from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His main research interests include morphological characterization of road aggregates, skid resistance of asphalt pavements, intelligent paving and compaction of asphalt pavements, and interfacial interaction between asphalt and aggregates. He has participated in and is currently working on projects such as the BASt project, the DFG project and the EPSRC project. Academic appointments include Head of the Academic Department of the Chinese Doctoral Students' Association of North Rhine-Westphalia - Aachen Region (VCPNRWaachen), Germany (2017-2018), and member of the German Association for Road and Tunnel Research (setac), Aachen, Germany.
Abstract of presentation:
The compaction process of asphalt pavements has a very important influence on the service performance, service quality and life cycle of asphalt pavements, which is why pavement compaction is a popular issue for industry experts. Quality control of paving compaction can effectively improve the quality of asphalt pavements. However, quality monitoring of paving and pre-compaction of asphalt pavements, as well as real-time simulation and prediction of compaction during the paving process have been rarely concerned. This report presents the research methods for the real-time simulation and prediction of the asphalt pavement paving compaction. Considering the existing digital technologies in traffic engineering, this presentation discusses the application and outlook of paving compaction of asphalt pavements with the aid of digital twins technology.
